On Wednesday we rented a car, Peugot 407sw diesel, and drove up
to the Isle of Skye. On the way up we stopped at
Urquhart
Castle on Loch Ness to search for the lake's famous inhabitant.
Sarah can be seen pointing out where she thinks she saw something. The next day we woke up early to a home-cooked breakfast at our lovely bed and breakfast (Darnbrook Guest House). We spent the morning strolling on the beach nearby, and later took pictures of the dangerous Highland Cows (as can be seen to the right). Around lunch time the rain stopped, and the sun finally peeked out, giving us something that looked like blue sky. We drove over to Dunvegan Castle of the Clan Macleod, and took the tour of the castle and its grounds. After the tour, we went out on the boat tour to see the seals (selkies) and other wildlife that live in the Loch. This is well worth the time, just to be able to see the castle from the water.

For our evening we had some exceptional seafood at
Lock Bay Seafood Restaurant, in the little town of Stein. We
followed this fantastic dinner with some scotch tasting, though Neeley
still prefers cider. We also realized that being this far
north during the summer solstice resulted in enough daylight at 11pm to
read the newspaper if so inclined.

Friday was the drive back with stops along the way, including the Faerie
Bridge (Neeley can be seen standing on it below), old forts, and
later the famous, but somewhat new-ish castle, the
Eilean Donan Castle. You may
recognize it from the many movies in which it has been featured in. The
castle was rebuilt in 1911.
