Neeley and I took a ten-day trip to Italy in the spring this year, starting
and ending in Rome, but primarily spending time in Tuscany. We
rented a house with Neeley's sister and brother-in-law, and their friends
from Edinburgh. Enjoy the pictures.

First stop, Rome. We got in the night before, so only slightly jet lagged. We walked around all day, including a quick stop into the Vatican as it was closing down.

Second day in Italy was spent on the train from Rome to Florence, then a drive from Florence to the village Rapale. A view from the back of the minivan included below. Our first Tuscany stop was Montalcino. Great lunch (I try not to think of the current Euro exchange rate), and a walk around. On the way back to our house, we stopped at Abbazia di Sant'Antimo.

Our next day we decided to walk around in Siena. We got there late, so we didn't spend time in the square. We agreed to stop back in again later in the week instead.

San Gimignano was our trip today. The town is known for the towers, and the double towers.

Back to Siena today. We wandered around the old city, exploring the neighborhoods, the central square, and the churches. On the return to our house a quick stop in the walled "city" of Montreggiano. Enjoy the pictures of the barbian versions of Neeley and I.

After all the driving we had been doing for the past days, we decided to take a break and stay in the town where we were based. Hamlet may be a better description. It's a small town of a handful of guest houses on a hillside, see the picture below (that's the entire town). But it was a day of relaxing after all the previous days of running around.

Montelpulciano. We were trying to see all the walled cities we could find within driving distance. Seeing all the old architecture and the stone buildings is wonderful.

All kinds of transport, including a train trip where I left a bag on the wrong train (but was able to get it back). We get the evening in Rome, and get a change to see the colosseum in the rain before the sun went down.
